Detailed description

Energy Efficiency

The usage of automated functions already save energy in every installation. Especially the usage of KNX has a lot of potential for further energy savings, which can contribute to a better environmental footprint. Be extending KNX to more functions and applications, energy savings of up to 60% can be realised. Thanks to the flexibility of KNX, these functions can easily be implemented in this installation

Innovation

Smart homes and buildings are always an upgrade in comparison to a conventional installation. Not only automated functions and a higher level of comfort contribute to a higher living standard, but also the possibility to be ready for coming innovations. Thanks to the usage of KNX, the door has been opened to integrate new innovative solutions, using the worldwide STANDARD for home and building control.

Ease of Use

By integrating KNX, we automatically experience a higher energy efficiency and comfort. Furthermore, by the possibility to use further devices, in order to make the usage of the project easier, we can look at further opportunity to even make the whole installation easier in usage.

Applications used

  • Lighting: Switching , Dimming , Light Scenes
  • Heating, Ventilation & Air conditioning (HVAC): Central & Automatic Control
  • Blind and Shutter Control: Individual Control , Group & Central Control
  • Operation and Visualisation: PC Visualisation , Web Servers
  • Automation and Remote Access: Messaging (e.g. SMS)
  • Other: Home Appliances Control

Customer's description

The project connects the CANopen Bus (an industry BUS system) of a CNC Machine, with the KNX Bus of a residential building. For this purpose a CANopen / KNX Converter is used. This project has been created by the teachers and pupils of the 2nd Laboratory Center (2nd LC) in 2019. The CNC Machine consists by 3 Servo Motors (for X,Y and Z axis), by 3 Servo Drivers (for the 3 Servo Motors) and a PLC. The 3 Servo Drivers and the PLC are connected through a CANopen Bus system, in order to change telegrams. The used PLC is the optimized solution for axis positioning thanks to specific software platform, which includes embedded automation functions and an ergonomic interface for axis configuration and is able to synchronize up to 8 Servo Drivers. The communication between CANopen and KNX is done through SDO (Service Data Object) messages. The 2nd LC is a secondary technical school, located in the area of Volos in Greece.
